Cary, NC – Combat veteran, political outsider, and U.S. Senate candidate Marjorie K. Eastman issued the following statement on President Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine and cause worldwide turmoil:
“Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Donetsk and Luhansk is illegal and threatens the peace, security, and territorial integrity of a sovereign nation. I strongly condemn Russia’s use of force and call on the leaders of the world’s democracies to impose the most severe sanctions possible against Russia. As a combat veteran who has deployed from Ft. Bragg, I know Russia’s dangerous escalation poses a threat to Europe and the free world, and my prayers are with the people of Ukraine and all U.S. forces forward-deployed to Europe.
“Vladimir Putin is a bully and only understands strength. This is why it is important for America to have strong, capable leaders in government who understand and take our national security seriously. We wouldn’t be here in the first place if it weren’t for the Biden administration and their absolutely disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. That sent the world a message that America is capricious, cowardly, and abandons its allies – and even its own citizens. Putin watched this disaster and celebrated, and I am certain Biden’s weakness emboldened Putin to press on Ukraine.
“Continued Russian violence in Ukraine will undoubtedly cost many innocent lives, cause energy prices to spike globally, and destabilize Europe. We must take swift and strong action to contain Russian expansion and stand with our friends and allies.
“Make no mistake. As a former soldier with two combat tours, I know the volatile situation in Ukraine has the potential to spin wildly out of control with the world’s two largest nuclear powers involved and over 100,000 of Putin’s troops on the border. America, as the world’s brightest democracy, has a duty to lead. This takes sending serious leaders to Washington who understand geopolitics and the stakes on the table like I do.”
